Veggie Rx is just what it sounds like: a doctor-ordered vegetable prescription! Since 2011, Capital Roots has partnered with Whitney M. Young Health to help patients who may be most in need of access to fresh food have it. Patients who have chronic health issues, such as diabetes, hypertension and obesity are able to meet with Whitney M. Young nutritionists and be connected to the Veggie Rx program.

Patients receive coupon books containing 13 $7 coupons which they can then redeem for fresh food on board the Veggie Mobile® and Veggie Mobile® Sprout. With nearly 35 stops across the Capital Region, there is a good chance there is a mobile market stop in a patient's neighborhood. In fact, since the program began, nearly 88 percent of all coupons distributed have been redeemed.

In March of 2016, Capital Roots launched our second Veggie Rx program in the community in conjunction with the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Albany Medical College. This version of the program is specifically designed for expectant mothers and their families. Each coupon, valued at $21, ensures all family members can participate, supporting and encouraging better nutrition for the entire family.
