Healthy Streets Upgrades Troy Neighborhood Streets

This July, Capital Roots’ Healthy Streets team upgraded crosswalks at three major intersections on 8th Street in Troy. To better serve pedestrians in this busy Troy neighborhood, Capital Roots updated crosswalks to be more visible, traditional ladder-style. Later updates will include painted bump-outs, bollards and bike racks for additional pedestrian safety and biking opportunities.

Thanks to a grant from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, Capital Roots was also able to install trash cans and pet waste stations all around our North Central and 8th Street Urban Farm neighborhoods! These additions will make it easier than ever to keep our streets and communities clean. We were excited to see our neighbors and passers by using them within the first day they were installed.

Capital Roots is committed to keeping Capital Region’s neighborhoods safe and usable for people of all ages and abilities through the work of our Healthy Streets program. For more information, visit:, or email to find out how to get involved.
