Current Volunteer Opportunities

As seasons change, so do our volunteer needs. Here is what we’re currently looking for.

Veggie Mobile/Sprout Stops

Capital Roots’ Veggie Mobile is a farm stand on wheels that travels throughout Albany, Rensselaer and Schenectady counties. The main task of the volunteer on the Veggie Mobile is to take produce orders from customers. Our staff members will work alongside volunteers participating in packing produce and payment transactions.

Squash Hunger Deliveries

Capital Root’s Squash Hunger program is a food donation initiative that collects and distributes fresh produce to our region’s food pantries, shelters, and soup kitchens. The main task of the volunteer is to pick up produce at or our donation collections sites located in Albany, Troy, Delmar, and Schenectady to deliver to emergency food providers on one of our various routes.

Mailing and Clerical work

We are looking for volunteers to help us stuff vital end of year campaign mailers. This mail helps to get our message out to the community – highlighting our work and how essential every donor is to the success of our mission. This is opportunity can also be done at home! We will prepare mailing materials and you can return them upon completion.

“Knowing that I’m part of the system that helps get food to those most in need in a timely manner is very satisfying. I really enjoy getting to know the staff and experiencing their passion for the mission of Capital Roots. I also like having a variety of jobs to do that exposes me to the breadth of Capital Roots’ programs and outreach. Being able to tell people that I volunteer for Capital Roots is a source of pride for me. I like to explain what Capital Roots does and spread the word about how the organization makes a difference in people’s lives, thereby serving the community.”
