Local Food for Local Kids.
A Healthier Future for Our Region.
Making Local Food Work in Real School Kitchens
At Capital Roots, we understand that serving fresh, local food in schools isn’t just about values — it’s about what’s practical in busy cafeterias with limited staff, time, and equipment.
That’s why our Farm to School Program goes beyond sourcing whole produce. We help schools access fresh, cut, and frozen New York–grown fruits and vegetables that are ready-to-use, easy to prepare, and designed for institutional kitchens.

Produce Pilot Program:
Helping Schools Do More with Local Food
Capital Roots is proud to be one of the few approved New York State Produce Pilot vendors. This means schools partnering with us can maximize available state resources to bring more local produce into cafeterias — without increasing costs or administrative burden.
Through the Produce Pilot Program
combined together, schools can:
• Stretch food budgets further
• Increase the amount of New York produce served to students
• Access products that meet school meal requirements and capacity
We help schools navigate eligibility, ordering, and compliance — making the process simple and stress-free.
