How We’re Helping Pantries and Soup Kitchens
Capital Roots, in partnership with the NYS Department of Health, is currently seeking new food distribution locations to support within select municipalities of the Capital District!
Our Healthy Communities team provides one-on-one support to pantries and soup kitchens of all sizes, from once-a-month pop ups to permanent programs. We start by assessing your pantry’s needs, assisting with healthy food distribution policies, and supporting implementation – making it easy for your community to make healthy choices at the pantry. Your organization will also receive technical assistance from our team on best practices and strategies dedicated to your unique organization and its community.

To be considered, pantries must be located in one of the following areas: Amsterdam, Albany, Cohoes, Mechanicville, Rensselear, Schenectady, Troy, or Watervliet. We are unable to consider pantries in other areas at this time.
We all appreciate you and Capital Roots so much. Our work with the Food Hubs have obviously been in a stage of transition and growth (with growing pains) and your patience, support, and commitment has been incredibly helpful. I hope you know that you will have a forever impact on all of us, and our Hubs and Garden!!!

Capital Roots is such a dynamic, well-respected collaborating partner – and deservedly so! We greatly appreciate all they do to make healthy nutritional support a reality in the Capital Region. Troy Area United Ministries (TAUM) is particularly grateful for the garden they have planted and are cultivating in our yard and for this vital partnership in growing nutritious vegetables for guests of our Troy Damien Center. Thanks to Capital Roots, people experiencing food insecurity in South Troy will have greater access to delicious, healthy veggies!

Thanks to the support of Capital Roots, we are not only able to grow food, but we are also able to grow community. We are overwhelmed by the amount of interest and support that community members have shown for this project — including donating additional plant material and volunteering their time to maintain the space — and we can’t wait to incorporate the freshly grown produce into our weekly meals.
